Rumpus Room closed permanently on 14 January 2019
A spring 2017 reboot sees Rumpus Room, the Mondrian London’s glitzy 12th-floor sky-bar, looking punchier than before. You’ll now find a sexier mix of jewel-bright Mad Men-era furnishings and a tweaked Thames terrace (with stunning City views) that resembles the set of a 1970s Cinzano commercial. Under Idris Conti, who has created a new NYLon-themed list, the bar has upped its game too. Homage to Mr Bradsell, Dick’s Martini (Grey Goose l’Orange vodka, Amaro di Angostura and Coffee Martini Ambrato) is a lighter bittersweet twist on an Espresso Martini. Away From The Craze (Jensen’s Old Tom gin, sloe gin, lavender, cacao and port wine) is among the other notable ‘Brits’. Worthy Stateside rivals include Medford Flip, which has two rums, pear eau de vie and mushroom in the mix. Less game-changing, on current form, are RR’s bar snacks. We regretted our choice of crostini (a bland burrata and fig topping).
