As an all-rounder, the Queen’s Head & Artichoke has plenty going for it. Handsome Victorian surrounds & charming knick-knacks lend it plenty of personality, & its tapas plates have been
known to pack a full-flavoured punch. Take a breath before setting off on a trip from asparagus with a soft-boiled egg to oriental seafood skewers, via deep-fried breaded cauliflower with harissa,
stuffed vine leaves & patatas bravas. If you want a full meal, order from a Med-leaning menu that might include gazpacho, braised Ibérico pork cheeks with Puy lentils or ratatouille with a
baked egg, followed by a plate of fruit, honey & yoghurt. Occasional lapses in the kitchen, ‘haughty staff’ & high decibels may limit QH&A’s appeal beyond the neighbourhood, but it
remains a handy local haunt
