Call Porters Berkhamsted to make a booking on:
The Covent Garden institution that was Porters, owned by Lord Bradford, has upped sticks and moved to Berkhamsted. The relocation is a great boon for the leafy market town in Hertfordshire, as Porters’ pies are legendary. Take a seat in the light, airy interior (or out on the heated ‘deck’ in fine weather) and choose the filling for your pie – steak, Guinness and mushroom is a reliable winner, though lamb and apricot is good too. Start off with a simple tomato salad or a hearty fried black pudding, and finish with lemon meringue crème brûlée. Cooked breakfasts, fish & chips, or cumin, leek and mushroom crumble provide further options. It’s always worth checking the specials too: there’s often a deal to be had, turning a fairly priced dinner into a bargain.
