With a mini empire including Olivo, Oliveto, Olivomare and Olivocarne, restaurateur Mauro Sanna may have established himself as the Sardinian king of Belgravia, but he’s always looking for a new slant on things. Cue Olivogelo – his regional take on an authentic gelateria. Not surprisingly, most of the homemade ice creams, sorbets and yoghurts have a distinctly Sardinian flavour, with weekly shipments from Cagliari providing ingredients such as saffron, bitter honey, dates and grappa. Fans can also expect a full contingent of more conventional flavours to eat in or take away – anything from chocolate, coffee and pistachio to mango (sorbet) and blueberry (frozen yoghurt). As for the interiors, be prepared for a dramatic glass counter and gleaming walls pointed up with individually designed, white ceramic tiles framed by hand-glazed borders representing ice cream flavours.
