On Wednesday 21 November, we pretty much sprinted to the City with a group of our beautiful blogger friends for a very special dinner at HKK (above). For the uninitiated, this Worship Street gastro-temple is one of Hakkasan’s newest London offerings. It’s the group’s ode to fine Chinese cuisine, revolving around a set menu which is the equivalent of fine art on a plate – why look at art when you can devour it?

We sat in the private dining room and demolished a seven-course set dinner menu, which included a trio of beautifully light and colourful dim sum (above), served with a paint brush for daubing on soy sauce (told you it was art). This was followed by the headline act: Peking duck, roasted for 80 minutes in a cherry wood-fired oven. Sliced up and served in front of us with a huge cleaver, the crisp and treacle-like skin sliced away to reveal some of the best duck flesh you’ll come across in London. You can even watch the ducks turning and roasting in the oven through viewing windows in the dining room, the glistening fat slowly sliding down the carcass. This is starting to read like an M&S advert isn’t it.

The treats kept coming: buttery chunks of Wagyu beef (from cattle fed beer to make them extra juicy, pictured above) arrived to swipe the duck’s limelight, followed by two desserts and all matched with an array of international wines, sakés and cocktails. As you may have gathered by now, this was certainly a blogger dinner to remember.
