Jun Tanaka's Street Kitchen goes permanent

street food3 - streetfood2_streetkitchenvan.jpgNext week, chef Jun Tanaka and his business partner Mark Jankel will launch a permanent version of their popular food truck Street Kitchen in Hackney House, on Shoreditch High Street.

From Tuesday, the restaurant will take up an ongoing residency in the hip Shoreditch event space, serving the same refined menu of seasonal dishes that brought it to prominence on the streets – plus a few new additions.

'We're going to serve Street Kitchen boxes at lunchtime, but in the evenings we'll serve burgers,' Tanaka told Square Meal. 'We'll change the menu every day depending on what's in season and what's available at the market, but broadly there will be one fish dish, one veggie dish, one meat dish, a broth and a dessert to choose from every day, with prices between £5-7.50.'

Tanaka is also on the hunt for the right London location for a separate venture – his first solo restaurant. So far, he has been considering sites all over London, from Mayfair, Fitzrovia and Covent Garden, to Soho, Bermondsey and King’s Cross, with a view to opening later this year. 'It’s just a question of finding the right site, wherever that may be in London – which I haven’t done yet,’ he said.

Street Kitchen will open in Hackney House on Tuesday, 19 March.

Correction: a previous version of this story incorrectly linked Jun Tanaka's forthcoming solo restaurant to Street Kitchen. Square Meal would like to apologise for this mistake and clarify that the two restaurants are separate ventures.
