Eric Chavot dishes details on Mayfair venture

eric chavot 2013 - Eric_Chavot_2013.jpgChef Eric Chavot has revealed more details about what diners can expect at his comeback London restaurant, Brasserie Chavot.

The renowned chef’s debut menu will feature hearty French dishes such as côte de boeuf, lemon sole with butter sauce, and rabbit stuffed with black pudding. Meanwhile, the dessert menu will pander to sweet tooths with dishes including creamy Mont Blanc or rich gâteau Basque.

Despite its Mayfair location, the restaurant will aim for a relaxed vibe and will pitch its prices much lower than most of its neighbours.

‘We’re going to do 15 starters and 15 main courses,’ Chavot told Square Meal. ‘Starters will cost between £8-12 and mains between £16-24. We’ll be offering wines by the carafe, and dishes will be served family style, to share – when you go to a restaurant, you always want a bit of what your wife or friends are having.’

It will be a far cry from the fine-dining establishments where Bordeaux-born Chavot made his name, which include La Tante Claire, Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons and The Capital.

‘I just want to have fun,’ explained the chef. ‘If you’re an actor, are you going to play the same role all the time? I want people to come here and relax. If they just want a green salad, that’s fine – the word ‘no’ doesn’t exist.’

The Mayfair brasserie will open on Conduit Street on 11 March after a week-long soft launch, serving lunch and dinner every day.
