London’s burger scene continues to boom, and
in September the capital is set to get one of its best yet.
The so-called Five Star Burger is being created by a team of London’s top chefs and foodies, led by Tom Hunt. Hunt is a spokesman for eco-friendly
cooking and head chef at Bristol’s Poco restaurant. He also works with Action Against Hunger, a humanitarian charity dedicated to ending child hunger, to raise money through food events.
Hawksmoor chef Richard Turner is creating the beef and bone marrow patty which will form the basis of
what is set to be London’s ultimate burger. It will then be adorned with relish from Ceviche and Andina owner Martin Morales, and lacto-fermented pickles from Tom Hunt. It will be encased in a bun sourced by Daniel Young
of Young and Foodish, the founder of Burger Mondays. Hunt
describes Young as ‘the Godfather of burgers in London’.
Martin Morales will also be creating a veggie burger, while accompaniments will come in the form of a panzanella salad from the Forza Win team
and rosemary chips from Tom Hunt.
The event will run from 11am-11pm on Wednesday 10 September, and will feature Martin Morales DJing alongside other live entertainment. Guests will receive a cocktail on arrival, and bars will be
available throughout.
‘We’re bringing together a lot of talent to try and create the very best burger we can,’ Hunt tells us. Asked about his own favourite burgers he says: ‘Bloody hell, there are too many to pick
from,' but reveals that ‘controversially I really like the meat-free quinoa burger at Andina’, and also that ‘the
burgers at the Disco Bistro pop-ups are insanely good’.
Tickets to the Five Star Burger Event cost £20 and are available now via Eventbrite. All
proceeds will go to Action Against Hunger.
