A taste of Hedone in Soho

mikael jonsson_hedone 2012 - Mikael_smiling.jpgMikael Jonsson (pictured, right), of Michelin-starred Chiswick restaurant Hedone, has taken on a consultant role at a Soho wine bar. The experimental Swedish chef has devised a new bar and dining room menu for Antidote near Carnaby Street, which has re-opened after refurbishment.

Jonsson has been friends with the owners of the bar, which specialises in natural, organic and biodynamic wine, for several years, so the partnership is not as unlikely as it might sound.

Antidote has always been known for the individuality of its wine offering, and Jonsson's new menu matches this creativity. Dishes in the upstairs dining room include cod served with smoked Jersey Royal potatoes and dried olives, suckling pork shoulder with carrots and blood orange, and an oatmeal and caramel parfait. Small plates along similar lines will be served in the downstairs bar.

Those familiar with the dishes at Hedone will find similarities in clever flavour pairings and an often unusual use of fruit and veg, while the same bread which is baked for Hedone in Jonsson’s own bakery will also be served at Antidote.

A four-course dinner at Antidote costs £40 per person, with a £30 wine matching also available; this compares to a starting price for dinner at Hedone of £65 for six courses, and £45 for wine matches.
