Portland Opens

Portland Great Portland Street Fitzrovia London restaurantWill Lander (co-owner of The Quality Chop House) and Daniel Morgenthau (ex-10 Greek Street) have opened Portland, an all-day restaurant in an old clothing showroom on Great Portland Street. Here’s the lowdown on this dynamic duo’s first joint venture…

Other than Picture, the area isn’t exactly known for its food offer. This is a welcome addition to Great Portland Street, which is Portland Great Portland Street Fitzrovia London restaurant Pithiviersalso home to the BBC. The restaurant is a bright and airy affair with an open kitchen at one end, allowing for a lively atmosphere. Start with some snacks, perhaps Colchester native oysters, pig head croquettes with kimchi mayonnaise or duck prosciutto. For starters, hand-dived scallops or lamb tartare with grated yolk perhaps. Although the chargrilled South Devon sirloin sounds like a cracking main, the wild game pithivier with black truffle and game sauce (pictured right) is screaming out to become their signature dish. For afters, we like the sound of the hazelnut éclair.

As you might expect from one of the co-owners of Quality Chop House, there’s some serious attention to detail on the wine list. The house red and white is generously priced but it’s the ‘special’ bottles, all of which are available by the glass, that give you the chance to try something rare and exciting.
