This party den’s bar is done out like a shop counter straight out of Open All Hours, while a trompe l’oeil mural at the back suggests a townhouse library from the days when Barbara Cartland was in the pink. Munki’s drinks list is a racy read, so get familiar with classics such as porn star martini, aviation, sidecar and glitter fall – a Ruinart rosé and raspberry Champagne cocktail served in an (apparently) edible stardust-sprinkled flute. As well as various seasonal recipes, there are eponymous mixes aplenty – from Maidstone Munki (a sweetened Monkey Shoulder whisky sling served with rosemary and sherry-marinated sultanas) to the Munki that spilt the cream (Belvedere vodka, Kahlùa, Frangelico, cream, honey and nutmeg). The bar’s name refers to its owner’s childhood nickname, ‘naughty munki’.
