Billing itself as a modern version of a neighbourhood pub, punnily named Knowhere Special is found in trendy Islington, having first opened in 2020 (and managed to successfully navigate the various lockdowns that followed).
The venue is split across a multitude of spaces, including a large main bar, a dining room and a comfortable snug. There is also space for private events in the pub’s gallery and private club room, while on sunnier days, guests can make the most of the ‘enchanted’ garden, which is decked out with verdant greenery and a large decorative mirror on one wall.
Knowhere Special’s food menu is made up of seasonal British small plates, with the pub open from 8.30am on weekdays. Swing by in the morning to enjoy coffees and pastries, while later in the day you can visit for a light lunch or relaxed dinner. The food offering here evolves with the seasons, but you can always expect to find a mixture of classic pub grub and more modern propositions - think steak and chips or fish of the day, alongside the likes of Tandoori lamb belly served with bread and a zesty beetroot raita.
On weekends, Knowhere Special hosts a brunch with a live band blasting out hits from the 90s and early noughties, while Sundays are all about hearty three-course British roasts. Tuck into the likes of a crayfish salad to start, before moving on to your pick of pork, beef, chicken or veggie Wellington, complete with trimmings. To round things off, pick one of the daily-changing desserts from the special’s board.
Knowhere Special also takes great pride in its list of seasonal house cocktails, which include harmoniously paired flavour combinations such as rhubarb and rosemary or pear and cinnamon. Not a fan of cocktails? There are craft beers and wines available, too.
