Call Iris at The Gherkin to make a booking on:
The 360-degree panorama from the cocktail lounge on the 40th floor of ‘The Gherkin’ – which takes its name from the building’s iris-shaped apex – is without doubt a sight to behold. You’ll need to book a table in advance here, but then you’ll be treated to an air-conditioned sky-dome that hosts Searcys’ new grey-on-black bar where good smoked salmon, cheese and charcuterie boards or salads are backed by fine wines and fizz. The view is not the sole talking point; Iris’s cocktails, dedicated to London ’hoods, are also up for discussion. Served, tiki-style, in a jolly blue china fish-shaped vase, Pirate ‘One-Eyed’ Willy (a rum and pineapple tropi-cooler) does ‘Greenwich’ proud. We weren’t so enamoured with ‘Edgware Road’ (a mint vodka, hibiscus and elderflower foamed Earl Grey Iced Tea that was heavy on the grenadine) but can recommend the elegant gin, rose liqueur and pistachio Sour that is suitably ‘Regent’s Park’.
