Cocktails, pies and pastries on the cheap: that’s the formula at this homespun bar-canteen on the site of the late, unlamented Foundry. Artfully recycled furnishings take the bare look off the venue’s concrete shell, and sunny service also cheers up proceedings. Cocktails are unlikely to impress Shoreditch’s more sophisticated regulars, but you’ll pay a mere fiver for the likes of White Russian, Long Island Iced Tea, Aperol Spritz and Negroni. Low pricing also holds for wines and craft beers, as well as all-day eats that include homemade ‘humble’ pies (fish, chicken, meat or vegetarian) with mash (£7.50), sausage rolls, club or salt-beef sandwiches, filled baguettes (for much less than the cost of those sold at big-name chains) and apple crumble or bread and butter pudding. English breakfast is served, too; in Shoreditch this is a meal taken any time between 8am and 10.30pm, when the Pastry Union packs up.
