Spice up your evening with a visit to Hemel Hempstead’s Guru Spice. Located on Bridge Street, Guru Spice is a classic Indian restaurant, with plenty of space for date-nights and groups. This is the casual kind of restaurant that can almost feel like dining at a friend's house, just with tables in white linens and dark wood partitions to make it a little cosier.
As you’d expect, starters include meat and vegetable samosas, cottage cheese chilli paneer baked in the tandoor, chicken and lamb tikka, and delicious momo stuffed with shredded chicken cooked in butter. The tandoor dishes include a lamb tandoori shashlick with grilled onions, peppers and tomatoes, a succulent half tandoor chicken on the bone, and king prawns barbecued to perfection.
If you’d rather opt for something more unusual, definitely consider one of Guru Spice’s house specials. The sizzling tawa consists of marinated chicken, lamb, king prawns and sheek kebab, all barbecued in a clay oven and then cooked with garlic, chillies and tomato sauce. For something more saucy, try the chicken garlic paneer saag, cooked with a well-spiced Handi sauce with spinach and chilli. More specialities include the lamb tikka roast Bengal, delicately cooked chicken sharabi, the lamb zaffrani with Bangladeshi fresh herbs and spices, and flamingo chicken tikka.
Of course, there are also more familiar dishes, including masala, korma, butter, rogan and madras curries, amongst many others - all available with various meats and proteins. You’ll also find several types of biryani with king prawns, vegetables, lamb, chicken and potato. Guru Spice is a crowd-pleaser, and for those who don’t enjoy spice, it also offers a selection of English dishes, like fried chicken, chicken nuggets and chips, and a few options for omelettes. So rest assured, dinner at Guru Spice will cater to every taste with ease.
