SquareMeal Review of The Fritton Arms

A boho-chic bolthole on the Somerleyton estate at the southern end of the Norfolk Broads with 5,000 acres, a huge lake & golf course – this is rural escapism at its best, albeit with a cosmopolitan outlook. Once a 15th-century smugglers’ inn, it’s now a boutique hotel with nine luxurious bedrooms upstairs, and a laid-back bar & beamed brasserie downstairs. Using much of the estate produce such as parkland game, rare-breed beef & vegetables from the walled garden, the food has real provenance. Hearty dishes include slow-roasted shoulder of lamb with Puy lentils, bacon & mushroom stew, greens & saffron rouille, or hot smoked salmon & pea risotto.
