Following the success of their Beak Street original, the guys from Flat Iron have taken over the premises formerly occupied by La Giaconda. Like its sibling, this democratic steakhouse specialises in serving its namesake – an underrated shoulder cut of beef also known as ‘top blade’ or ‘butler’s steak’, presented on an oblong wooden board with a fun-sized meat cleaver for doing the business. Also expect some top sides, including dripping-cooked chips and garlicky spinach, as well as dinky salads. With steak-friendly wines offered by the glass, it’s sure to be another affordable treat for young-at-heart Londoners. No bookings.

Simple Steak, Simply Good
Flat Iron. Steak cooked medium rare and at such a good price. £10 for a good piece, not the biggest piece, but you are only paying a fraction of the price of a usual central London venue. Cooked to your liking, (which should be medium rare), the steak comes with a mixed leaf salad. Some times, less options are better. This is why Flat Iron works so well. All you have to think about, is how you would like your steak cooked and what sauce you want with it. Bernaise, peppercorn or just mustard. Simple. One of the real highlights of the visit here is also the beef dripping chips. So much goodness in one bowl must be illegal. The beef flavour coats all of the chips, which are fried perfectly too. Steak + Chips = Flat Iron = Good food.
