Following on from the success of her Newquay pop-up, Emily Scott, who already oversees the kitchen at the St Tudy Inn, has opened up a permanent restaurant on Watergate Bay simply called Emily Scott Food. Having taken over the space that was previously the bar Watchful Mary, Emily Scott Food is focused around serving simple, stripped-back dishes which showcase only the most local of produce. Boasting stunning sea views, Emily Scott Food provides the perfect atmosphere in which to enjoy a carefully crafted seafood and plant-based menu.
Located atop the sea wall, the restaurant has a bright and airy feel to it thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows which allow sunlight to flood in. The restaurant’s décor is simple yet elegant and features stylish wooden chairs sat around plain white tables and seaweed decorating the walls. Emily Scott Food also benefits from an outdoor decking area which overlooks the beach and is the perfect spot for an al fresco meal, while a brand-new retractable glass canopy creates further space for dining throughout the year.
When it comes the restaurant’s food offering, it’s all about Scott’s less-is-more ethos; the ingredient-led menu features combinations of just a few different elements to create easy-to-like dishes. Expect starters such as roasted scallops with truffle butter and a buffalo mozzarella panna cotta with basil and tomatoes. Main courses are predominantly focused around fresh seafood, with everything from risottos to crab salads available, while for dessert you can expect galettes, tarts, English berries and more.
Emily Scott Food places just as much importance on sourcing the best wines as it does with kitchen ingredients. The wine list therefore, has been designed to best complement the dishes on offer, while there are also plenty of other alcoholic and non-alcoholic drink options available.
