In their second location in London, this time with a trip down south, Dough Hands has taken over the kitchen at The Old Nun's Head. Found on Nunhead Green, The Old Nun's Head itself has been welcoming guests since the 17th century, and has the most charming look to it. Today, it’s best known as a welcoming pub and hub for local residents and the queer community.
The brand of Dough Hands is led by pizza chef Hannah Drye, who pays particular attention to the pizza's crisp crust so that diners won't be leaving flavourless scraps on their plate – rather, they will see the crusts as just as tasty as the middle. In Drye's cooking her team use regenerative flour from Shipton Mill and Wildfarmed, and so far, their residency at The Spurstowe Arms in Hackney has garnered them quite the cult following.
Some of the pizzas you should look to try include the ‘Shroomy’, made with soy roasted mushrooms, soft taleggio cheese, tarragon and a hint of garlic, and the ‘Jode’, a pizza pie with nduja and hot honey, sprinkled with stracciatella and a pinch of basil. Other Dough Hands signatures include the ‘OG’ topped with mozzarella, pepperoni, jalapenos and oregano; and the ‘Spicy Tuna’ with Calabrian chilli tuna, red onion, grana padano and lemon. For something extra on the side expect garlic bread with chive and parsley butter, gochujang bread, and Caesar salad.
The Old Nuns Head offers a variety of lagers and ales that will go perfectly with punchy pizza toppings, plus the bar staff make a mean spicy Margarita. If you just can’t wait to get your Dough Hands on one of these pizzas, remember that there are no reservations here, just walk-ins.
