In a bid to catch the post-work money, ‘boutique sanctuary club’ Diu (pronounced ‘dee-yoo’) is now accessible from 5pm from Monday to Saturday. Essentially a gothic mineshaft, it’s prettified with flashes of gold, flowers & candles under a starry LED canopy. Before the tribute acts & hair weaves begin to drift in from 10pm, drinks are at happy-hour prices – although they don’t sound that merry to us: £3.50 gets Corona, a glass of house wine or spirit & mixer, while £5 entitles you to the bartender’s cocktail of the week. Stay late & sip sambuca shots or Champagne from £12; otherwise dip into a drinks list that touts Cristal, Ace of Spades, Ultimat vodka, Rémy Louis XIII & similar ghetto-fabulous statement bottles at £200 plus. The soundtrack is urban, house, funk & soul.
