SquareMeal Review of CôBa

Bronze Award

From the team behind the popular Table For 10 supper club comes this equally congenial Vietnamese restaurant – the work of Vietnamese-Australian Damon Bui. CôBa occupies a former corner pub on unlovely York Way, but its welcoming atmosphere and vibrant food deserve more than just neighbourhood success. Within, sandy-coloured surfaces, ample natural light and glints of copper evoke sunnier climes. Start by ordering small plates of exemplary spring or summer rolls, but don’t miss the prawn toast: gently fried, thick bread piled with juicy, crisp prawns slathered in spiced mayonnaise. Mains steer things back to Vietnam with generous noodle salads packed with barbecued meats, plus bowls of ramen or gently flavoured beef pho. Barbecued lamb chops (a daily special) were smoky, sticky and delicious. Finish with cake delivered from a nearby Aussie bakery, and expect a succinct list of cocktails and unusual wines. Pricing is occasionally high, but the value is good overall and the quality undeniable – long live CôBa.

Love it
Am so glad these guys have come to my corner of North London. Thoroughly love the food, drinks and service. A nice mix of originality and authenticity. Get the prawn toast, it is seriously good. Hope they stay around for a long time.

Visited with 5 friends during the soft opening. Liked the modern, sparse decor and was impressed by all the starters (chicken wings, prawn toast, summer rolls) and cocktails. We all had the bbq meats for mains and were a little disappointed although the vegtables/noodles were fresh and tasty the meat disappointed, the pork was chewy and beef well hidden.
