SquareMeal Review of Brew Battersea

Northcote Road in Battersea has long been brimming with prams, children’s scooters and chic café havens for gasping mums. Come weekend brunch, locals are spoilt for choice but Brew – with its green leather banquettes, minimalist décor and small terrace – is consistently brimming. Part of a chain with sites in London, the US and soon Melbourne, this diminutive entry offers antipodean breakfasts available into the evening, alongside a daytime menu ranging from salads to steaks. Popular sweetcorn fritters come stacked and oozing generous dollops of lime aioli and tomato jam, while daily specials could be the breakfast burger with poached egg, a thick pineapple disk and smoky, lean chorizo. Juice concoctions such as pineapple, mint and Granny Smith are not to be missed and all the requisite hot brews are here, alongside a range of baked treats. Tables can only be booked for the evening.

Awful don’t wast me your time

We had lunch here albeit it turned in to mid afternoon before we got food! Expectation was to be in and out within an hour but had to asked for menus, asked to order food twice.

The service was so slow that after an hour of waiting for our food, we asked where it was, only to be told 5 mins later what my husband had ordered the chef was not prepared to serve. Waited a further 15 mins for some of our food to arrive

Initially asked if they had a kids menu, told no but they would do a smaller position. Assumed this was for a reduced price but NO, less food same money!

Ordered a hot chocolate for my daughter, asked if we wanted a kids one. Assumption was that it was smaller, it arrived in a smaller cup but when the bill came was more expensive than the adults. Apparently because they use organic chocolate. There was no explanation at the time of ordering and the waitress had to ask a colleague why it is more expensive.

On the bill was a compulsory 12.5% service. So had to reward poor service!

Final straw was because they took so long with our food we managed to a parking ticket. So for over £120 we got mediocre food and appalling service we could have had a lovely lunch anywhere else and had money in our pocket.

Great place but they keep moving the good staff to their other restaurants

We love Brew, our only wish is that they bring back George the Chef and Gabriel the barista! They were both great but for some reason have been moved to other Brew restaurants, thank goodness Julia is still there, she is great!
