SquareMeal Review of Bivouac Café

As its name suggests, Bivouac at Druid’s Temple is a bit like a festival camping site, complete with ‘woodland shacks’, ‘meadow yurts’, a bunk barn and a patch of open land called ‘the breathing space’. It also sports a happy café, brightly done out with painted chairs, rustic woodwork, and a living tree adding to the back-to-nature vibe; there’s even a wood burner on the mezzanine for those wet Yorkshire days. Food is served from breakfast onwards, with bacon sarnies and porridge giving way to sharing boards, venison burgers, haddock goujons or Goan sweet potato curry. Walkers can fill up on mugs of soup, sandwiches and chips, and there’s plenty for those with a sweet tooth – perhaps Tunisian orange cake or chocolate brownies. The Bivouac also does a brisk trade in ready meals to take out (24 hours’ notice required).
