In 2022 Louis Roederer launched a new champagne which immediately made big waves within the multi-vintage category, when it replaced the house's well-loved Brut Premier NV with its new Collection series. Collection 245, so called as it is the 245th annual blend since the inception of the house. The multi-vintage concept encapsulates the philosophy to be free to create the very best wine each year rather than blending down to create a house style.

Louis Roederer's Collection 245 takes advantage of a particularly remarkable 2020 harvest, which produced juicy, well-structured, aromatic grapes, resulting in dense, full-bodied wines with a perfect balance of substance and freshness, generous and full of flavourful intensity. It is unique, and yet unmistakeably Roederer in style.

Alongside 55% of this 2020 harvest, 35% of the blend is made up with Perpetual Reserve, which helps to give the wine balance and freshness, while the final 10% is made up of Reserve wines from previous years and young plots on the Cristal estate, aged in French oak foudres, which add depth and richness. Aged for nearly 4 years in their cellars, the resulting wine displays complex flavours of citrus and yellow fruit, with pure, intense notes nuanced by a hint of smoke.

Try it by the glass for a limited time in a number of leading restaurants in London.

The balanced acidity and fruitiness of the wine enhances the flavour of these lighter, fresh dishes. “Greek dishes often feature lemon and vinegar, so choosing a Champagne with good acidity will harmonize with these elements” explains Maiorano.

Similarly, the Mushroom Arancini with pickled trumpette, black garlic emulsion and parmesan snow pairs seamlessly, as the umami-rich notes of mushroom and parmesan align with the wine’s depth, and the bright acidity cuts through the richness.” These pairings elevate the sensory experience, showcasing the versatility and elegance of Collection 245.
