The 12 best private dining rooms in Marylebone

Our favourite private dining rooms in Marylebone offer up something seriously stylish - which should (very importantly) help you impress friends and family with your impeccable taste and inside knowledge.

These restaurants, sitting right in the centre of town, are some of our favourite places to eat in the capital - and they just so happen to have gorgeous private dining rooms to boot. Whatever you're looking for - whether you fancy a Sri Lankan sharing menu or a fine dining French extraveganza - there really is something for every occasion. As with lots of London hot spots we'd advise getting in early to reserve your table so that you can sit back and relax knowing your event is taken care of.

Hoppers St Christopher’s place

Skip the usual queues at this popular Marylebone spot by booking your next party or event in one of Hoppers’ private dining spaces. Our favourite option is the lower ground floor which is decorated in a dark, modern palette and can be hired exclusively for up to 55 guests, with its own private bar area. For large party sizes it is possible to hire the whole restaurant, with a maximum capacity of 98. The team at Hoppers supply Wi-Fi, music options and a choice of florists if you’re looking to add a little something extra. When it comes to the menu you’ll be able to treat guests to flaky roti breads, richly-spiced curries and unusual appetisers such as banana chips.

Cuisine: Sri Lankan

Maximum capacity: 98

Opso

Private dining space ‘The Larder’ at Opso takes up the entire ground floor, offering a room that comfortably can accommodate 50 guests for dinner, or 80 for a cocktail party. The space includes large curing chambers for guests to explore, as well as a floor to ceiling wine fridge. To ensure you get exactly what you fancy the team at Opso offer bespoke menus featuring modern twists on classic Greek dishes.

Cuisine: Greek

Maximum capacity: 50

The Pickled hen

A good pub can be hard to find in the well-heeled neighbourhood of Marylebone, but The Pickled Hen ticks all the boxes. Good food, comfortable interiors and an inviting buzz. Their ‘Den’ seats up to 12 guests around one large family-style dining table and is surrounded by wooden panelling for a cosy feel. The team at The Pickled Hen can help to organise everything from a simple dinner to live cooking demonstrations or mixology classes, which would be perfect if you’re looking to make a bit more out of your evening than your typical three-course meal. When it comes to the food expect British crowd-pleasing classics like braised lamb shank pie and fish & chips.

Cuisine: British

Maximum capacity: 12

Trishna

Hire the whole restaurant for a big bash, with room for 60 guests, or plump for something more intimate with Trishna’s private dining room on the lower ground floor, which can accommodate 12 diners. This latter wood-panelled space offers a discreet setting for functions and overlooks the wine cellar, setting the tone of a celebration very nicely. Expect a modern take on Indian food, with dishes like tandoor scallops served with a squid ink tuile, coconut chips, vermicelli upma, chilli and coconut chutney; or wild boar biryani with saffron, mint, fried onions and pink peppercorn raita.

Cuisine: Indian

Maximum capacity: 60

 Royal China Club

Take your pick of three private dining rooms at Royal China Club, depending on your event – whether that be a big birthday meal, a trendy city wedding or a long business lunch. The three dedicated spaces hold between 12 and 36 people, but you’re able to hire the entire restaurant too, for larger groups. With a capacity of 240 guests it offers potential for quite the party, and the team at Royal China can even provide Chinese-style decorations. You can choose between a la carte menus or a set-meal, depending on preference and you and your lucky guests will be treated to delicious Chinese dishes like crispy duck or Empress Chicken with ginger and spring onions. Happily there is no room charge at Royal China Club, just a minimum spend.

Maximum capacity: 16

Les 110 De Taillevent

Combining classic French cookery with the freshest ingredients from around London and the UK, the team at Les 110 De Taillevent specialise in fine dining. The Lamennais Room is adorned with luxurious drapes and a sparkling chandelier, and looks onto Cavendish Square. The room offers up space for 32 diners to eat in a relaxed yet refined setting and it’s this combination that makes it the perfect place to sit back and enjoy a meal with friends, family or colleagues. Dishes include English rose veal with smoked Alsace bacon, polenta, swede, burnt pear and sage; as well as suckling pig with January king cabbage, apple, rosemary and sauce charcutiere.

Cuisine: French

Maximum capacity: 32

Donostia

Encourage a convivial atmosphere with plates of tapas and pintxo. These smaller serves are the signature style at Donostia and are ideal for sharing between everyone, while enjoying a few glasses of wine or a couple of bottles of beer. Choose between dishes like classic creamy croquetas with jamon, cold plates of marinated octopus or classic triple cooked chips with spicy brava sauce. The private dining room here seats 15, making it perfect for intimate birthday parties or a small work event.

Cuisine: Basque

Maximum capacity: 15

Jikoni

For something with real atmosphere Jikoni lends itself well to a fun, relaxed evening. The private dining table here is tucked away beside the kitchen, in the restaurant’s pantry of spices, and seats 12 guests. For bigger bashes you’re able to hire the entire restaurant, giving you a maximum capacity of 50 diners, and despite the size the space somehow still manages to feel like a secret supper club. Dishes  are an eclectic mix of chef and owner Ravinder Bhogal’s roots – she was born in Nairobi to an India family, and has grown up in the UK – with treats like okra fries, chicken skewers with peanut sauce and sweet potato bhel gracing the menu. However, no matter how good the savouries are it’s the desserts that really have us interested – we love the sound of the banana cake with miso butterscotch, peanut brittle and Ovaltine kulfi. Now that’s the stuff of our childhood dreams.

Maximum capacity: 50
