SquareMeal Review of Bakchich

Bronze Award

Following its success in Liverpool, Bakchich has brought Lebanese street food with a French twist to Manchester. The decor is colourful and attractive – all pretty mosaic tiles and cedar wood – while the menu includes perfectly executed Lebanese classics such as shawarma, crispy falafel, grilled meats and wraps. We loved the grilled marinated lamb chops with Lebanese spices, and also enjoyed a zesty tabbouleh salad and some squeaky, salty grilled halloumi with tomato, olives and mint. Lebanese moussaka is a standout speciality: the tender grilled aubergines dressed in garlicky tomato sauce with cumin and chickpeas. Drinks are all non-alcoholic, but include a fragrant range of lemonades (the orange blossom, pomegranate and rosewater options all complement the food well) alongside fat-free frozen yoghurt smoothies such as halva and pistachio or banana and honey. Located in the Quadrangle, just off Oxford Road, Bakchich is an appealing choice for a healthy Mediterranean lunch.
