Based in Bristol, Backyard Chicken Co is a fun and contemporary fried chicken restaurant that serves up all kinds of indulgent dishes. While we of course appreciate the skill of fine-dining chefs, we’re very much of the opinion that sometimes you can’t beat some good old fashioned fast food. Fried chicken, we think, is a classic indulgent treat that has the power to transform any day into an even better day.
Snacks here are perfect for enjoying with a drink, and range from Sriracha covered avocado fries with coriander and Tajin seasoning through to Korean chicken nuggets smothered in gochujang glaze, a garlic miso dressing and a topping of roasted peanuts. Once you’ve warmed up with a sharing appetiser or two you should be ready for mains, which for us are always going to the the best bit. You can choose between grilled or fried chicken, and there’s the option to have boneless or bone-in depending on preference. Once you’ve chosen your style and serve you can select a sauce with options that include spicy kung pao, a raj katsu, creamy buttermilk, and a peri peri which you can tweak on the spicy scale based on your taste. Also, as the old saying goes, sides maketh the meal, so don’t skip the range of fries, sweetcorn, salads and slaws.
There are sweets on offer too which include a rainbow ice cream soft serve, a chocolate and salted caramel brownie and a backyard sundae piled high with toppings. If you’re in the mood for a couple of drinks, the range of cocktails is pretty solid too with serves that range from strong and punchy through to sweet and fruity.
Interiors here have a very cool street food vibe with speedy service and a laid-back ambiance, and if you’re unable to book a table then the restaurant also offers takeaway.
