About

A great asset to Roman Road, Bacaro adds modern Italian food to the area’s increasingly interesting culinary mix. Park yourself at the smart bar and sample some chiccetti: ’nduja gnocchi with pesto; minced chicken in deep-fried pasta parcels; or smoked salmon, crab and polenta, perhaps. Simpatico staff rustle up cocktails such as Americanos, Negronis, Espresso Martinis and Alpine Spritzes (elderflower, mint and Prosecco). Over half the bottles on the Italian wine list are available by the glass; try the Puglian Negroamaro or a buxom peach and orange-blossom Chardonnay/Sauvignon blend from Le Marche. Braised duck tortelloni with thyme, orange and cream is a typical winter-into-spring idea from a seasonal menu that invariably includes a vegetarian pasta option, though cacciucco (a Ligurian fish stew in a tomato broth) would be our choice. Follow with Italian artisan cheeses, ice creams, cakes and trad desserts. Alternatively, come for Sunday brunch when roasts are served.

The food at Bacaro is every bit as good as you find in Italy
The food at Bacaro is every bit as good as you find in Italy. Owner Marco alongside chef Loren deliver the big, bold flavours of the Mediterranean. Highlights include crispy, spicy calamari, perfectly textured tagliatelle with a slow cooked ragu, a whole steam sea bass nicely balanced by delicate aromatic herbs. An unexpected delight was a bowl of spaghetti filled with fresh muscles and succulent king prawns. The desserts balance the mains nicely with a mango sorbet and a sharp but sweet Limoncello polenta cake. The main highlight is the setting, a warm friendly welcome, reclaimed wood and tiles adorn the walls. You can chose to sit up at the smart bar for a glass of chilled Prosecco, an expertly mixed espresso martini or like us, lounge at one of the vintage pub tables and chat about Summer plans as you do on a warm sunshine filled evening as if you are actually in the Med.

Sorry, you cannot spend SquareMeal vouchers here yet.
