Based out of a converted Grade II-listed pub, Amano offers up an authentic slice of Italy in rural Kent. Its restaurant-with-rooms concept attracts a mix of lively affluent locals, while the village location provides a perfect setting for celebrations.
Amano means ‘by hand’ in Italian, and head chef Fabio Moschini oversees an all-day menu focussing on the trattoria classics (al dente pastas, classic pizzas, hearty ‘secondi’ etc), with key ingredients sourced directly from his homeland. Our pappardelle al funghi di sottobosco was expertly cooked with just enough bite, and had rich hints of truffle throughout, while a standout dish of pollo alla pizzaiola comprised a generous chicken breast smothered in sweet tomato sauce with a side of wilted spinach. There are also some traditional dolci to round things off (think tiramisu, pannacotta and semifreddo al cioccolato).
Weekend brunch, bar snacks, a children’s menu and a fairly priced Italian wine list are further reasons to be cheerful at this affable venue, while boutique rooms with king-sized beds and contemporary features are available for guests seeking to extend their stay.
