Serving up small-plates of Mediterranean-inspired food to the people of Glasgow, Alchemilla is a cosy restaurant found in the city's buzzy west end. Priding itself on serving crowd-pleasing dishes which are designed to be shared across the table, the restaurant has a focus on sustainability both in regards to food and wine. Alchemilla also prides itself on using locally sourced Scottish produce to create dishes which are easy to eat. Its informal ambience and appealingly priced menu make it a spot well suited to both relaxed lunches with friends and family, and celebratory dinners where you can splash out and order most of the menu.
Located on Argyle Street, in the Finnieston neighbourhood of Glasgow, the restaurant has a couple of tables out front where people can dine al fresco when the Scottish weather allows it, while the colourful sign above the door is representative of Alchemilla's playfulness. Inside, the contemporary space has been designed to feel bright and spacious despite only having room for just under 50-covers. There's counter seating up at Alchemilla's bright orange bar while the other tables are tucked under a wooden mezzanine level, giving them a particularly cosy feel.
The restaurant's food menu takes its influence from a variety of different Mediterranean cuisines. Snacky plates such as jamon & cheese croquettas served with aioli, and radish with smoked cod's roe, begin the menu, which changes every day. Larger sharing dishes range from vegetarian plates like cauliflower with harissa, yoghurt and herbs, to meat and seafood options including sea bream ceviche, and quail with tomato and oregano. Expect sweet combinations such as chocolate, cherry, and hazelnut oil to finish proceedings.
Alchemilla's drinks offering is predominantly focused around its list of sustainably-sourced natural wines, but there are, of course, plenty of other options available by way of both alcoholic and soft drinks.
