If you’re looking for something different to the classic British afternoon tea, then you will not be disappointed. The luxury Pan Pacific hotel in Liverpool Street serves afternoon tea with a twist - the glamorous and elegant Orchid Lounge takes inspiration from Asia, offering afternoon tea devised by award-winning executive pastry chef, Cherish Finden.
The inventive menu and extensive tea offerings have earned the Pan Pacific a reputation as one of the best afternoon teas in London. Finden's individual take on afternoon tea pays homage to the hotel’s Asian cuisine, with Singaporean-inspired Kopi Tiam, bao, dim sum and choux. Cherish has also added some of her own childhood favourites to the menu, including green matcha scones and seaweed sesame shortbread served with soya salted caramel.
If you are more of a traditionalist, the Orchid Lounge also offers its Traditional Delights Afternoon Tea menu, with classic British sandwiches and scones. In the lead-up to Christmas, afternoon tea takes on a festive theme with traditional sandwiches, turkey sausage rolls and cranberry scones.
In May 2022, the Orchid Lounge unveiled the Superbloom Afternoon Tea - a tribute to Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee celebrations. Finden has taken inspiration from the majestic wildflower Superbloom installation at the nearby Tower of London to create beautiful treats like a corgi-shaped shortbread, street party-inspired candy floss and a tea and biscuit-flavoured amuse bouche, all housed in the Orchid Lounge's signature golden birdcage.
Whichever menu you choose, there is also a carefully curated accompanying drinks list to enjoy with your food. The dedicated Tea Connoisseur will be on hand to advise on an extensive collection of teas from the Rare Tea Company. Choose from black, white, green, oolong and herbal varieties. If you really want to add something special to your visit, choose a glass of something bubbly, with Champagnes and world-renowned English Sparkling Wines starting at £15 a glass.
