With its swinging Latino soundtrack, ever-cheery staff and free-flowing Pisco Sours, Zebu makes a game effort at bringing South American food to the mid-market. The spacious, two-tier dining room houses everyone from Brazilian locals to young dads wanting a family-friendly steakhouse – all settling in to order from a menu that reads like a greatest hits of the continent’s cooking. Our chimichurri grilled chicken hearts were the standout among starters that also included Colombian arepa (maize buns stuffed with the likes of black beans and pulled beef) and Brazilian cheese-stuffed, deep-fried rolls known as pão de queijo. Perhaps the ceviche line-up doesn’t hit the notes of London’s more renowned Peruvians, but the prime Argentinean beef selection provides expertly handled, first-class meat at reasonable prices. Burgers and flame-grilled chicken will keep the children happy, while punchy Chilean and Argentinean wines will please everyone else.
