SquareMeal Review of Yoobi Soho

Taking its cue from Rio’s hip Leblon neighbourhood and the funky streetwise temakerias peddling all manner of Japanese hand-rolled temaki cones, this stylish Japanese/Brazilian hybrid offers something for both purists and novelty-seekers – think tuna tartare rolls with guacamole, chives, capers, jalapeño and lime, colourful cones stuffed with tomatoes, cream cheese and basil, or deluxe versions filled with 20-hour cured salmon and Asian pear. Everything has been carefully planned and the food ticks all the current eco boxes: the fish is from sustainable sources, vegetables are bought locally, the Japanese rice (grown in Italy) has been exhaustively tweaked by the owners – and they even have their own blend of rice vinegar. Yoobi’s minimalist, industrial-style interiors are full of quirky angles and geometric shapes in playful colours – you can eat in, take away, or have your order delivered within a one mile radius at no extra charge.

The modern light wood design of the restaurant makes for a peaceful cool spot to have a quick bite. The handrolls are delicious, albeit slightly awkward to eat. Very nice staff. Quality of the sushi was really top notch and nobu like. Definitely worth checking out.
