SquareMeal Review of YO! Sushi Fulham

In the 15 years since it started, Yo! Sushi has gone from the hippest, hottest thing in town to a welcome, if predictable, presence in shopping centres, stations & airports nationwide. But there are still plenty of people who’ve never dined on conveyor belt sushi or summoned help with the touch of a button, so don’t dismiss this Japanese chain as a has-been. The conveyor belt isn’t the only thing that doesn’t stay still there; the menu is updated regularly with special offers & new dishes such as soft-shell crab or beef & ginger katsu as well as extravagant specials like crab & mango inside-out rolls. The plates on the belt are colour-coded (from £1.70 up to £6), & cover essentials of edamame & miso plus all manner of funky tataki, hand rolls, nigiri & gunkan.

We have been to this branch of Yo Sushi! quite a few times and have always had an enjoyable meal, with friendly service and a good atmosphere. However, one weekday last week we went in about 8.30 pm to find the tables greasy and barely clean, the conveyer belt with hardly a dish on it, very few customers and a general air of desultoriness pervading the place. We were not greeted on entry, as usual, so we made our own way to one of the unwelcoming tables. Having tried another, which by then, a waitress was making an effort to clean, we decided to leave and went to the excellent Wagamama across the way. A pity to find it in this state.
