SquareMeal Review of
Humble vins de pays and grands crus, sold at retail price plus a modest corkage fee, are behind the Wine Library’s success. But this cellar bar’s weekday buffet (11.30am-3.30pm) certainly adds to the appeal, providing hams, quiches, rustic rillettes and saucissons, plus fab fromages from Philippe Olivier of Boulogne-sur-Mer, ‘possibly one of the best cheese shops on the planet’. Pop back later for a post-work wind-down in civilised surroundings. Informed staff will suggest wines for all tastes and most budgets: from juicy Jurançon sec bin ends at not much more than the cost of 20 Gauloises, via old vines Napa Valley Edizione Pennino Zinfandel 2009 (robust and complex at £46), to celebratory fizz such as gorgeous Gosset Grand Millésime 2004 – £840 per case to go.
