SquareMeal Review of
Showman Vito Ciaraolo oversees front of house while his sister Lucia cooks at this long-running Sheffield Italian – a dyed-in-the-wool city trattoria right down to its exposed brick walls, claret
upholstery and vine-draped beams. The food is also as traditional as can be, with a few regional specialities among the now-familiar assortment of antipasti, pastas, 12-inch pizzas and secondi.
Start with homemade polpette (meatballs) in spicy tomato sauce, salad tricolore or Calabrian-style frittata with red onions and asparagus before sampling wild mushroom and truffle risotto,
spaghetti carbonara or fillet steak with Gorgonzala, onions, cream, white wine and parsley. Not surprisingly, meals on a classic note with the likes of tiramisu, zabaglione, pannacotta or tartufo
limoncello. The wine list is an all-Italian affair including some interesting regional labels and sparklers. Note: pre-booked parties only Sunday lunch and Monday.
