SquareMeal Review of
Little Bay Battersea
Cast aside all cynicism and enjoy a night at the opera with Little Bay Battersea, where ravishing small sharing plates are served to your stage-side seat at the press of a buzzer. Granted, the concept sounds a little off the wall (not to say naff), but the owners of this Battersea restaurant-cum-opera house have pulled it off marvellously. Tables are either at ground level or ‘in the Gods’, each in its own red-curtained ‘box’, with perfect views of the stage, from which diners are serenaded. Service is charming and attentive, and the food, far from playing second fiddle, hits all the right notes. Scallops with crisp deep-fried kale are soft and spanking fresh, while a dish of ox cheek and celeriac falls apart with the touch of a fork. Desserts include a selection of ‘raw’ vegan options, all nutty wholesomeness and ripe fruity flavours, and the cocktails and wine list covers all the classics. Just the ticket for a romantic evening or fun gathering with friends.
