SquareMeal Review of
Hidden behind a specialist off-licence that’s admirably stocked with hard-to-find hooch, TT Liquor is the third venture from the lads behind Discount Suit Company and The Sun Tavern. Shonky staircases lead down to a decrepit Dickensian warren: the former Kingsland Road police station, its hobbit-height cells and forbidding interview rooms recast as a dark brick-lined basement. We’re happy to be banged-up in this singular Shoreditch sensation. Cracking cocktails are matched to food from pop-up caterers; a wet Vodkatini made with pickling vinegar is harmoniously paired with Iraqi haggis, for instance. Twists on classics include Oh My Darlin’, a Sidecar manqué made with mango-infused brandy clementines. Also notable is a Diplomatico rum, crème de banane and peanut punch, served tiki-style – although the jury’s out on its title, Satay-Day Night Fever. Upstairs, spread over various stripped-back classrooms-cum-event spaces, workstations allow interactive cocktail masterclasses to be taken by up to 170 paying guests.
