SquareMeal Review of Tozi

Bright, modern and gregarious, this light and airy Italian ‘tapas’ restaurant was quickly adopted by the local populace, and has maintained its place thanks to snappy service, a great menu and an on-the-ball kitchen. The line-up looks as cheap as chips and regulars take full advantage at lunchtime, dropping by for pizzette topped with Taleggio, mushrooms and sausage or tomato, mozzarella and goats’ cheese, plus some elegant salad on the side – avocado, Parmesan and radish with baby gem, or asparagus and quail’s egg with black truffle, perhaps. The menu’s long enough to make it a three-day-a-week ritual, with smarter dishes such as roasted cod with clams or lamb Milanese useful for client entertaining. In the evening, there are larger, grander dishes to share – think chargrilled wild sea bass with salsa verde or rib of beef with rosemary and garlic. Alternatively, head to the attractive bar for Prosecco on tap and other potable pleasures.

The service is friendly and welcoming and extremely helpful full of cheerful smiles! The food is delicious, great selection of small plates to give you a wide choice of flavours and tastes. Excellent for pre-theatre and we will definitely return.

A very interesting Venetian restaurant where the menu is modeled after tapas styled restaurants. The menu is somewhat limited. They were out of the pasta we wanted to order but they readily made a substitution. No table clothes. The dining area could become noisy. Generally, a good find in Victoria.

Wonderfully fresh victuals were almost enough to cause rapturous acclaim on our first visit, so I have to try to restrain myself being a first-timer last Sunday lunchtime. An informal dining experience in Victoria, within comfortable spacious modern surroundings was an excellent surprise - not sure how this slipped by us until now. If they have been doing this for over one year, they should keep doing more of the same. Straightforward menu of small and larger plates for many of the dishes suited us. I relished the idea of tasting as much as possible, so the sharing style of this dining outfit, matched my desire. Our Italian waiter was knowledgeable whilst being clearly passionate about food and wine and helped guide us with portions and wine. Broccoli Fritti was classically simple but perfect, closely followed by truly fresh avocado salad and a salami pizzetta, possibly in my non-expert opinion the best outside Italy. Pork rib ragu was smothered in a deep tomatoey sauce as it should be and the pasta al dente. In contrast, the ravioli consisted of a sensationally super-soft and silky egg pasta encasing delicate buffalo ricotta, coated generously in smooth butter and heavenly-scented black truffle shavings. The fact that it was almost one dimensional visually was quite incidental - if one dish should be obligatory, then it would have to be this for being unbelievably good, provided that it can be successfully replicated time and again. Baby chicken with sautéed potatoes and spinach brought smiles yet again to our faces as we shared out last plate. All this food paired with a superb Tuscan wine completed a satisfying lunch - for me, this kind of cooking is equally as enjoyable as the more sophisticated efforts of Pollen Street Social, Sketch and Ametsa.

This was the fourth time we have visited Tozi since it opened a few months ago. As usual the experience was up to their usual standard. The Italian (Tapas) style of eating, only works if you have good timing and service. So far this has always been the case. would heartily recommend the restaurant.
