Tony's Restaurant and Bar

SquareMeal Review of Tony's Restaurant and Bar

Tony’s has hoisted the Stars and Stripes over Brixton with the launch of this down-home US diner next to Hootananny’s live-music venue. Grilled steaks, burgers and hot chicken wings are the mainstays of the menu, although the kitchen also knocks out other stateside favourites including beef chilli nachos, chicken Caesar salad, grilled salmon, lamb chops and New York cheesecake too. All-day breakfasts are less patriotic, offering anything omelettes and pancakes with syrup to a full English, and there are handy deals for kids too. To drink, sodas and milkshakes line up beside pots of tea, Becks beer and a clutch of international wines. You can hire out the downstairs space for a private bash, and the owners will also arrange cabs home at any time.

A group of 6 of us went to this place after buying a voucher. The food was the best Caribbean I have had in London and coming from Jamaican parentage I know a good meal when I taste one. The place is nice as well. Have already been back several times, this place has now become my regular. The alcohol prices are very reasonable. Very pleased about my new discovery!!!

The “grill” is actually a old oil drum barbie – which is situated in the alley behind. Just take a look up there, it's next to the bins, fox ‘mess’, rats etc. – just go around the corner into Arlingford Road and look up the alleyway just to your right. Fine if you're cooking for yourselves, but you're supposedly running a restaurant. The locals (like me) avoid this place like the plague. The noise and smells don't impress favourably either.
