SquareMeal Review of
“Great sourdough pizzas” are the main event at this indie joint in Camberwell – an unfussy, welcoming venue with marble-topped tables, whitewashed walls and a centrepiece dome-shaped oven for doing the Neapolitan-style, wood-fired business. Around 10 varieties are available, involving artisan ingredients such as burrata, Provola cheese, anchovies, aubergines and Camberwell’s ‘Scotch bonnet‘ n’duja, plus other items for custom-built toppings. Like the Franco Manca chain and other specialists, this place concentrates almost exclusively on pizzas – that’s it apart from some garlicky focaccia, wood-roast onions with chilli and various panuozzo (pizza ‘sandwiches’) at lunchtime. Ice creams and affogato are there for a sweet finale, while drinks bring gutsy vino by the jug, London-brewed craft beers from Kernel and Orbit, plus a few Italian cocktails. Prices are seriously affordable, starting around £6.50 for a basic margherita. Takeaways too.
