Squaremeal Review of The Woodstock Kushiyaki Bar ?

The Woodstock Kushiyaki Bar closed on 11/16

The concept of this new Japanese bar is simple, and in a town that has more Japanese restaurants than we can shake a stick at, refreshingly different. Rather than sushi and sashimi being at the heart of the menu here, it’s cooked food – nibbly and delicious kushiyaki and kushiyage skewers. The choice is not huge but wide enough to satisfy most palates – marinated leek wrapped in bacon, courgette tempura, soft shell crab and beef teriyaki all  feature. And if you fancy widening your knowledge of Japanese drinks, this is a pretty good place to start – Japanese whiskeys, sakes and beers all take pride of place. Ideal for a pint and skewer as a pick-me-up after working or shopping in Oxford Street.

The Woodstock Kushiyaki Bar bills itself as bringing the feel of Japanese Izakaya to the capital. Situated on Woodstock Street off the busy Oxford Street, it is ideal for a drink and bite for shoppers or after work drinks. Infact the website states the concept is based on the pubs and bars found in Japan, acting as a ‘pit-stop’ for a ‘pint and skewer’ before heading home after work.

Kirin Ichinban lager is served with a frozen top (but sadly without the Mr Whippy effect) and acts as an refreshing thirst quencher...
