SquareMeal Review of
The Winter Gardens
The Winter Gardens has to be visited at least once on account of its spectacular interior: this fabulous glass-ceilinged venue – once part of Harrogate’s former Royal Baths complex – was used as a
public recreational area from the Victorian era until the 1930s. Anyone could saunter and relax here amid the potted palms, and expect to be treated to a full municipal orchestra, a live pianist or
some other sort of entertainment. These days it’s a Wetherspoon’s pub, so expect less high-brow diversions in the shape of ‘silent’ TV screens, gaming machines, cut-price real ales, ciders, spirits
and cocktails – plus a wide-ranging menu taking in everything from big breakfasts and paninis to curries, pasta, pies, steaks and kids’ favourites. The pub also has a licensed outdoor area.
