SquareMeal Review of
The White Horse - Chilgrove
If you want to arrive in style, take advantage of the helipad not far from this gorgeous-looking 18th-century inn nestled in a lee of the South Downs. It’s a lovely setting, with Chilgrove village
green outside and a classy rustic-chic interior that mixes old beams and standing timbers with smart touches straight out of Country Living magazine. Food-wise expect a wide-ranging menu spanning
everything from crispy pig’s cheeks with apple sauce or home-cured gravlax to pies, grills, sausage and mash or roast duck breast with a confit dumpling and honey jus. The White Horse gained an
enviable reputation for its magisterial wine list when Barry Phillips was landlord back in the day, and it still boasts a fine collection of tipples (some courtesy of Barry’s Four Walls Wine
Company). There’s also plenty for those who prefer pubby vibes and a pint of ale.
