SquareMeal Review of
DUE TO CLOSE 6 APRIL 2015
Converted from an old clothing warehouse, this funky metropolitan brasserie and bar has become arguably the liveliest spot in Southport – especially with Liverpool football hero Stephen Gerrard as co-owner. The cooking pulls in fashionable ideas from home and abroad, with native flavours and tricksy east-west touches going hand in hand. Pork and pistachio terrine with lard pastry and Branston pickle might sit alongside Shanghai chicken with soba noodles, while beer-battered fish and chips or roast pork belly with black pudding and mustard sauce could keep company with monkfish curry or stone bass with crispy chicken wings and Puy lentils. For afters, try treacle tart with caramelised figs or chocolate pavé with cherry sorbet and Italian meringue. Warm, stylish interiors create a cool, urban vibe within split-level space, with light jazz and easy classics providing the soundtrack.
