The regeneration of the Euston area has prompted some interesting dining developments, such as this bar and restaurant, which claims to serve a fusion of African and Asian flavours. Prices are reasonable, but the catering college-level fine dining approach matches the canteen-like decor and atmosphere. Our duck breast with grilled bok choy, crushed sweet potatoes, plum and baobab sauce was pleasant enough, but the duck was overcooked and the sauce tasted suspiciously like the cherry sauce later drizzled on our panna cotta. The pasta in spinach and ricotta ravioli was far too thick and completely swamped in the sauce. Other dishes on the menu include rack of lamb with soft polenta, goats’ cheese mousse and pancetta, as well as steak tartare with pickled ginger, watermelon, wasabi, soy sauce, coriander and sesame seeds. The aforementioned lemon and basil panna cotta was far too firm, the basil overwhelming any other flavours. Plenty of room for improvement.
