The Regent Balham says

Even after the requisite updating, this is still a proper pub-lover’s pub. Drop in to meet up with friends around one of the large reclaimed tables or snuggle up in a cosy booth. In good weather you can always get some sunshine in the hidden outdoor terrace. It’s a brilliant place for sports fans without a ticket for the big game with big screens showing all the important matches (they will happily keep the commentary off so that the other customers can converse). The food offering is fairly workaday with burgers, steaks and hotdogs ruling the roost, but nachos, fish and chips, handmade pasta and hearty Sunday roasts also feature.

The pub has a good collection of comfy seating and eating areas. It has a couple of local draft beers which is always a good sign. I ate alone midweek and had a properly-cooked steak burger, salad, and large glass of Shiraz, for £20 all-in. The single waitress (Hannah) was kept pretty busy, but the food was delivered efficiently and was hot. Couldn't ask for much more.

Food and service were excellent but would query the “gastropub” tag as on the early Saturday evening we visited, it was more akin to a loud sports bar that serves great food. We were only in the area for the weekend, but if we found ourselves back there, think we'd try a lunchtime slot when perhaps the crowd and music are lighter!
