SquareMeal Review of The Queen's Head - Denman Street

The Queen's Head is a small independent pub in the heart of London's West End. Capturing all things British, we pride ourselves upon stocking locally sourced ale's while serving homemade traditional pub food. Situated upstairs from our busy quaint little bar, the restaurant serves a menu of fresh ingredients from sustainable and ethical sources. Popular classics such as our delicious Fish & Chips and our homemade Piccadilly Pies are a big hit with our regulars and first time visitors alike. Next door to the Piccadilly Theatre we also offer a 2 course pre-theatre menu for just £14. If you're looking for quality food and drink, vibrant atmosphere, a building soaked in history and friendly staff then this is the place to be.

Great Place - Traditionally British
We had a fantastic lunch here, for two, and the bill came to £42, including drinks. The food is very traditionally British and the pies are to die for. It's not fancy in any way, shape or form but if you want a good wholesome meal, with a great atmosphere and no pretense, in the heart of the West End then this is the place. Service is good, no hanging around, it was busy on the lunchtime that we went so it's probably a good idea to book.

No fuss and no issues. The Queens Head serves good food well priced and is but a stone's throw from Piccadilly Circus. The sea bream dish tasted very fresh with a nice mix of ingredients. Ditto the puff pastry basket. All washed down with a pint of Wandle Ale – my first of same but definitely won't be the last! The dining room is upstairs and did have a bit of feel of “the upstairs room which we only use when really have to”. That said, we weren't the only table and the chap serving upstairs was very pleasant and helpful. The pub downstairs was packed out and pretty lively without being manic. I made a mental note to return for some more Wandle.

We chose it because we were booked to see the Show in the Piccadilly Theatre and Queens Head was promoted as a first floor restaurant in a pub which would serve pre-theatre dinners. This is not a restaurant – it is a first floor pub bar with a few tables and no atmosphere. We booked for dinner at 6pm and made it clear we were at the Theatre next door which started at 7.30pm so we expected to be out by 7pm. We arrived at 6.05. The two guys who were the only staff on neither seemed to know anything about our booking and there was no reserved table. As a pair left just after we arrived we had a table. By 6.55 our starter was served – as it was a cold dish there was no excuse for the long wait, By 7.10 I was making it clear we would have to leave to go to the theatre. Just as we were going to leave the main course arrived. We left at 7.20 having only half eaten the meal. And in addition to that the food was near to awful. As you may guess we will not go there again. Owen Luderrrrr
