SquareMeal Review of
This large, friendly & ‘beautifully decorated’ pub has become a local favourite since it was revamped from its grotty former incarnation as the Coleherne. Today, the interior is lit by giant
chandeliers, there’s black & white floral-print wallpaper on the walls, & the large central island bar provides a welcoming focal point. The menu changes twice daily & is a mixture of
pub favourites (chicken liver parfait, burgers, beer-battered haddock) & more upmarket choices such as Iberian charcuterie or homemade gnocchi. Sunday roasts ‘cost a few quid more’ than the
average, but are hugely popular. To drink, various lagers are on tap, including Bitburger & Sagres, alongside an ever-changing selection of ales such as Broadside or Tribute. There’s also a
moderately priced wine list. A sun terrace & upstairs lounge provide alternative hang-outs when the bar is busy, & a first-floor room can be hired for parties.
