SquareMeal Review of
The Olive Tree
In the centre of the lovely village of St Merryn on the outskirts of Padstow, this Mediterranean-themed restaurant run by Kevin and Flo Parsons makes the most of the region’s abundant larder.
Whether it's meat and vegetables from the Padstow Farm Shop, bread from the town's bakery or tea from Cornwall's only grower, the majority of the ingredients are sourced locally. Not surprisingly,
Cornish seafood has a big say on the short menu and the list of daily specials – think pan-fried scallops with apple risotto and Parma ham, crab linguine with chilli or monkfish with gnocchi and
butternut squash velouté. Meat eaters might prefer rib-eye steak with roasted new potatoes or slow-cooked shoulder of lamb served with fettuccine and broccoli, while stone-baked pizzas and
Treleaven's ice creams are popular with the youngsters.
